Josh King, NASM Certified Personal Trainer

My name is Josh King, and I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Certified Weight Loss Specialist, and Group Fitness Leader at King’s Total Fitness. I am a husband and father of two. I am as old as I feel, as age is just a number.

My Fitness Journey

I love the outdoors and creating things with my hands and my mind. As a child growing up, I was very active and fit. I came from a family of two older brothers and two younger sisters. We all played sports throughout school. You could always find me outdoors, either working or playing.

 

After the school years were over, I let myself go. I gained a lot of weight. At my heaviest, I was around 550 lbs. Because of the weight gain, I had to start taking heartburn and blood pressure medication. I was always “told” I needed to lose weight. After finding a great doctor in 2013, we sat down and talked about losing weight.

 

After talking to her and for other personal reasons, my wife and I decided to do it. We did our research and tried out different routes for us to take. Just by changing our eating habits, in the first month, I was down 27 lbs. In four months I was down a total of 60 lbs. The only exercise I was doing was a recumbent bike. 

 

A couple of years ago my wife and I decided that healthy eating wasn’t enough for us. We wanted to better ourselves even more, so we added exercise. Once adding this into our daily routine, we were able to lose even more weight.

 

Exercise increased our muscle mass and we became leaner and more flexible. I am currently down over 300 lbs. I no longer take any medication. It is amazing how your body reacts to losing weight.

 

Maintaining a healthy diet along with exercising became a passion for my wife and I. We wanted to take it further. We decided to become personal fitness instructors and open our own fitness studio. Now, we can help others become healthier versions of themselves.

My Why

I know. I know the struggles of what people go through with weight loss and weight gain. I'm not going to sit here and say it was easy. There have been a lot of struggles throughout the years. I know that being heavy makes it easier to go back to old habits because I have.

 

You will have slip-ups as I have. You are only human. I have been through a roller coaster of losing weight and then gaining it back. It can be a hard thing to get in control of. When you do, and you will, you learn that your body is capable of so much more than you realized.

My Plan for You

I am in the process of studying to become a Certified Weight Loss Instructor, as well as a Certified Corrective Measures Instructor. In our fitness studio, we believe that everyone is capable of doing the same thing that we have. We believe that no matter your age or fitness level, you are able to get healthier. It is never too late to start your fitness journey. 

 

Remember above how I said I love to create? Well as a part of our studio, I have created an obstacle course. In our journey, we found an interest in obstacle course running. We needed a place to train, so what better place than here on our property?

 

Our course consists of a mile worth of trails that run through our woods. I also made a total of 18 obstacles to play on in our back field. I refer to this place as the “adult playground.” 

 

We have a huge garden full of fresh vegetables on our property. We raise chickens for eggs, meat chickens, ducks, and turkeys. We enjoy this the most because there is no better feeling than knowing where your food came from. 

 

I look forward to helping others achieve what I have achieved. Once you start to see results and start feeling healthy, you will be hooked. It will become second nature to you. Just remember this, you can do it! Someone believes in you, and that person is me. If you can put your mind to it, you can do it.
